The Miami Valley School (MVS). Our mission is to challenge young people of promise to become self-sustaining learners and compassionate global citizens. For almost 60 years, MVS has provided a unique learning option for families in the Dayton, Ohio, community. Here, faculty are educators who are ready to help refine a truly differentiated educational opportunity as MVS becomes a nationally-recognized leader in experience-based learning. Here, every member of the MVS community is committed to transformative immersive learning in the classroom and during our Immersion term. Equally important is our commitment to Social Emotional Learning (SEL), through which our students learn the skills and competencies necessary to navigate an ever-shifting world with confidence and curiosity. Company History
The Miami Valley School, as we know it on Denise Drive, started in 1964 after nearly a decade on Munger Road, then known as the “Marti School.” MVS’ history is rich with teachers and programs that empower passionately inquisitive students to make a difference in the world. Political leaders, Broadway performers, nationally-recognized comedians, award-winning actors, entrepreneurs, global thinkers, CEOs, scientists, industry leaders…just to name a few.
In five decades, the campus has seen impressive expansion and additions, creating a more conducive environment for immersive learning, optimal for hands-on education. A state-of-the-art black box theater, self-sustaining greenhouse, outdoor education center, turf field, revamped tennis courts, additional classrooms, and an atrium.
Seven heads of school have assumed the leadership of this great school, all noting MVS’ diversity, citizenship, compassion, and authenticity, and embracing these characteristics as they have led the school forward. MVS is all about the students, the minds that seek, and teachers, the hearts that serve, who together have fostered intellectual curiosity, community connectedness, and personal relationships. Simply put, MVS’ passion is helping students discover theirs.
